    Job Summary:

    The Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) Membership Manager oversees the overall membership strategy. Duties specifically include developing, implementing, and managing membership communications, renewals, upgrades, and acquisitions, as well as cultivation, stewardship, and recognition events. The goals are to retain members, increase and diversify the membership base, and achieve revenue goals from membership sales at the $75-$1,000 levels. 

    This position requires strong organizational and management skills and effective oral and written skills. Candidates must be able to identify and solve problems, be willing to increase knowledge and skills through ongoing training, work independently with minimal direction, and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization, including staff, trustees, donors, volunteers, and members. This individual must be professional, diplomatic, and discrete in handling sensitive and confidential information.
     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries and concerns.
    • Seek feedback from members to continuously improve the membership experience.
    • Manage the fulfillment of memberships; print member cards and materials regularly to ensure timely delivery.
    • Plan and implement membership renewal, upgrade, and acquisition strategies to meet revenue goals.
    • Monitor membership statistics and work to increase renewal rates, with particular attention to tracking first-year renewal rates.
    • Create, manage, and report on revenue and expenses budgets for membership funds.
    • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in membership management.
    • Join the local Membership Managers group.
    • Collaborate with Marketing and fundraisers to develop mid-year and end-of-year Annual Fund appeals and stewardship mailings.
    • Work with the Donor Events Manager to coordinate member-specific events, including exhibition member previews.
    • Work with Marketing to determine the content and copy for the monthly member insider newsletter and other promotional materials.
    • Train Visitor Experience and Museum Store staff on membership sales and promotions and maintain a consistent presence at the CMA Welcome Desk during peak hours and events.
    • Identify and recommend new and improved processes and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Provide staff support for donor events. 
    • Recommended membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • 3–5 years of successful membership development experience, preferably in a museum or nonprofit setting.
    • BA/BS required.
    • Experience in a position with a strong donor/customer-centered focus.
    • Demonstrated success in working as a team member and experience supervising others.

    Skills:

    • Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
    • Effective listening, oral and written communication skills
    • High-level knowledge of annual fundraising
    • Strong personnel management skills
    • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills,; including setting priorities and meeting timelines. Comfortable juggling multiple tasks/deadlines simultaneously. 
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and donor databases, specifically Altru and Raiser’s Edge.

    Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Must be able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to reach with hands and arms and work overhead from floor, ladder, or genie lift. Must be able to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs. using proper tools and form.
