Meteorologist

WLNE-TV/ABC6, the ABC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island, is looking for a passionate, accurate and energized meteorologist to join our weather team on-air and online!

Hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards — Southern New England gets a little bit of everything!

The ideal candidate will be committed to urgently covering weather that is potentially life threatening to our community.

The ideal candidate will also understand the importance of minor weather events, which often have a big impact on the daily lives of our audience.

Candidates should have a B.S. degree in meteorology or earth sciences, plus 3-5 years of experience on-air. Top candidates will have superior forecasting and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce easy-to-understand and informative visuals, maps and graphics.

Candidates should have experience covering breaking severe weather — on broadcast, online and on social media. The ideal candidate will have a relentless commitment to covering weather on our digital platforms.

To be considered, please provide examples of on-air presentation during severe weather.

Qualifications:

• B.S. degree in meteorology or earth sciences
• 3-5 years of on-air experience weathercasting
• Maintain a steadfast commitment to accurate forecasting.
• Proficient in weather graphics production.
• Experience with severe weather coverage
• Ability to keep team informed of anticipated weather events and work with team on executing coverage plans during severe weather.
• Contribute weather stories and videos to all digital platforms multiple times a day
• Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.
• Participates in promotional activities, including public appearances.

Skills/Experience:

• WSI weather system knowledge preferred
• Ability to produce easy-to-understand and informative visuals, maps, and graphics for use on air, online and on social media
• Ability to work well within a team.

Work Environment:

Our station operates 24/7, ensuring viewers get the weather information they need around-the-clock.
