    The Project on Predatory Student Lending is the first legal services practice in the country focused solely on representing postsecondary students who were harmed by predatory practices in higher education and vocational training.

    Started at Harvard Law School in 2012, the Project became an independent non-profit organization in August 2022. The Project primarily uses impact litigation to further its mission of ending predatory practices in higher education.

    The Project has prosecuted landmark litigation holding corporations and the government accountable for abusive and discriminatory actions and policies.

    Our Mission :

    To date, the Project has won cancellation of over $16 billion in student debt for over 1 million former students located throughout the United States.

    What's in it for you :

    The Project on Predatory Student Lending's Advocacy and Engagement Specialist unites PPSL's litigation and advocacy program with the client community and key external stakeholders.

    • Salary : $55-75k per year, depending on experience
    • Remote role : Travel to Boston required four times per year

    Essential Functions :

    • Support PPSL's litigation and client relationships
    • Manage and update PPSL's screening tools and client records
    • Working with PPSL's attorneys, develop and conduct outreach to identify, connect, and build relationships with potential plaintiffs
    • Client communication support (e.g., managing Mail Chimp, client communications and blog posts, social media, and website updates)
    • Identify opportunities and trends that could impact PPSL's litigation and policy initiatives
    • Escalate individual client issues and questions to legal team
    • Support Advocacy and Policy program
    • Help coordinate advocacy and education outreach efforts toward policymakers, members of Congress, and congressional staff
    • Support tracking and analysis of advocacy data and goals
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of strong relationships with community partners, fostering communication, collaboration, and engagement
    • Draft email alerts and updates, social media posts, talking points, form letters / emails, e-newsletter articles and other resources to inform and activate client community and other audiences on key advocacy activities and news
    • Assist with tracking proposed pieces of legislation and Congressional action
    • Manage PPSL's data
    • Run tailored reports in Salesforce and other platforms
    • Work with PPSL's litigation and policy teams to anticipate information for data reporting
    • Troubleshoot survey and reporting platforms as needed
    • Manage outreach and events for student borrowers and community
    • Plan events for PPSL client community(webinars, town halls, etc.)
    • Attend events with PPSL client community
    • Work with PPSL staff to draft and send email updates and automated notifications to student borrowers
    • Generate and strategize opportunities to leverage client voices
    • Liaise with the policy and communications teams to connect student borrowers to advocacy opportunities through media, policy makers, and other opportunities that may arise
    • Identify client engagement strategies in support of litigation, strategic communications, and policy initiatives
    • Identify, connect, and build relationships with PPSL client community
    • Serve as staff liaison to any informal client committees or advisory boards
    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements and Qualifications :

    • High School degree required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Experience in legal support, policy, advocacy, data management, administrative, and / or client facing roles.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong grasp of Microsoft Excel.
    • Willingness to learn and develop skills that will enhance contributions to the team, including new technologies. Experience with Salesforce and / or CRMs preferred.
    • Committed to and passionate about the Project's mission and working with underserved and marginalized communities.
    • Enjoy working on multiple different projects and perform well under deadlines.
    • Ability to take a proactive approach to client engagement.
