    Description

    Principal Function: Conner Prairie Museum’s Retail Manager supervises the daily operations of the Museum Store.  The Retail Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the retail activities and merchandizing of the store serve to complement event programming and daily programming of the Museum. The Museum Store should serve to provide guests with a memory of their experience at Conner Prairie, while generating and serving as an income stream for the Museum operations.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

    1. Develop and implement sales strategies to ensure budgetary expectations are met.
    2. Analyze merchandise performance and react accordingly.
    3. Supervise Assistant Manager, store staff and unpaid volunteers.
    4. Coordinate the design, receipt and ticketing of merchandise.
    5. Prepare for and facilitate the annual inventory and calculate results.
    6. Reconcile daily sales with POS (Point Of Service) system.
    7. Evaluate and update store displays and item positioning to optimize sales.
    8. Ensure Museum Store is open for all events or a pop-up experience is created during outdoor programs/events for merchandise sales.
    9. Ensure the best customer service is applied in all store interactions.
    10. Create and conduct training sessions with employees and volunteers as needed.
    11. Attend and present at relevant trade shows.
    12. Adhere to and supports Conner Prairie’s Mission, Vision and Values.
    13. Abide by Conner Prairie’s Standards of Conduct.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:  The Retail Manager supervises the Assistant Retail Manager/Book Buyer and staff composed of paid employees and unpaid volunteers.

    Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s in Business, Retail or Merchandising required or equivalent progression of experience in the retail field; five (5) or more years in a retail or merchandising leadership role with proven experience in inventory control, merchandising, accounting and product development.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

    Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
