Nuclear Pharmacist under the direction of a physician, compounds and dispenses radiopharmaceutical drugs to medical care providers. Responsible for procuring, compounding, dispensing, and distributing radiopharmaceuticals. Being a Nuclear Pharmacist analyzes drugs for verification of identity and strength. Must have completed a program in nuclear pharmacy. Additionally, Nuclear Pharmacist may require an advanced degree of pharmacy. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Requires license to practice. Nuclear Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.   • POSITION SUMMARY
    Provides pharmacy services for Center for Molecular Imaging and Therapy (CMIT).  Provides management of the quality program for radiopharmaceutical production and various radiopharmaceutical research and development activities.   

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
     
    Responsibilities include but not limited to: 
    • Pharmacist-in-Charge of a Nuclear Pharmacy distributing a variety of radiopharmaceuticals. 
    • Preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals for human and non-human research uses, including clinical trials as necessary. 
    • Participates in manufacturing processes for radiopharmaceuticals. 
    • Oversees and participates in quality control processes for radiopharmaceuticals. 
    • Operates cyclotron, automated radiochemistry synthesis devices, and associated equipment in compliance with protocols and good ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) radiation safety practices as needed. 
    • Maintains all records as mandated by state and federal regulations for a radiopharmacy and as needed for quality program compliance. 
    • Maintains radiochemistry, radiopharmacy, and cyclotron facility in compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and appropriate environmental controls.  Acts as the quality assurance manager to ensure the completion of production processes and the release of manufactured products. 
    • Responsible for inventory maintenance and control including ensuring the proper procurement, use, and control of raw materials used in the production of radiopharmaceuticals as well as the dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals and ancillary products. 
    • Responsible for establishing and managing backup pharmacy services and personnel. 
    • Responsible for staff maintenance and training as relates to the pharmacy and quality program.  
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    Pharmacist Degree or equivalent degree is required. Must be eligible and able to obtain licensure in the state of Louisiana. Requires a minimum of two years of clinical experience. Requires adequate experience and training in nuclear pharmacy to qualify as authorized nuclear pharmacist. Board Certification desirable. P.E.T. radiopharmaceutical production and dispensing experience is a plus. Experience in molecular imaging helpful.     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
     
    Strong organization skills with attention detail.  Able to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications.  Able to operate relevant equipment as required. Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills or abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the essential functions of the job.
