Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care works in collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to manage care for patients in an acute care setting. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Assesses patient condition and may provide treatment using specialized medical equipment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.     Job Description:

    • Implement nursing policies and procedures
    • Make daily resident rounds and report status of nursing care to the DON
    • Ensure adequate staffing to provide nursing care
    • Review residents admitted and compare physician orders with each residents plan of care to ensure appropriate implementation
    • Implement and maintain quality assessment and assurance program for the nursing department
    • Asses each resident’s skin condition weekly and as necessary including stage, size, sites, depth, color, drainage, and odor of each condition. Report any changes to physician, charge nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Director of Nursing, and take follow up action.
    • Instruct nursing assistants in proper, preventative safety measures and use of adaptive equipment to meet residents’ needs.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team and rehabilitation meetings as required.
    • Supervise the infection control program by reviewing reports and analyzing data and providing any necessary recommendations
    • Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action as necessary
    • Interview, hire, evaluate and counsel certified nursing assistants and recommend personnel action(s) as necessary
    • Always observe Resident Rights Policy
    • Maintain open lines of communication between all nursing personnel and consistently take follow-up action as needed
    • Preform all duties assigned in an effective, timely, and professional manner
    • Preform other related duties as directed by supervisor

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Valid LPN License
    • Valid CPR Certification
    • 2 years of direct nursing experience
    • 1 year in a role that included infection control surveillance, trending and monitoring is preferred
    • Experience in a supervisory role within the nursing profession is preferred
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Flexibility in work duties and schedule
    • Management experience preferred
