POSITION TITLE: Special Education Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's Degree in School Administration or higher
• Valid certificate in Supervision
• Ten years of experience in education
• Advanced graduate work in area of Special Education is desirable
• Working knowledge of accounting, computer and student information Software.

REPORTS TO:

• Superintendent

SUPERVISES:

• Special Education teachers and personnel

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage annex office.
• Supervise special education personnel (professional and paraprofessional) in schools.
• Participate in parent conferences.
• Participate in conferences with staff.
• Monitor special education records to determine compliance with guidelines.
• Interpret special education guidelines to both regular and special ed. personnel.
• Consult with the State Dept. of Education for interpretation of guidelines.
• Prepare special education budgets.
• Approve and sign travel for itinerant personnel.
• Plan for staff development and technical assistance for Special Education personnel and regular program administrators.
• Attend special education professional meetings as well as other professional meetings.
• Advise special education teachers on curriculum materials.
• Serve on Special Education textbook committee or appoint a designee.
• Sign all special education purchase orders.
• Attend principal's meetings.
• Attend screening, eligibility, and IEP meetings as needed.
• Monitor/supervise the Medicaid billing within the school system.
• Follow all state and federal guidelines.
• To perform any other job-related or system-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
• Maintain the confidentiality of student and employee records.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Salary and work year to be in accordance with the current applicable salary schedule.

EVALUATION:

• Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
