Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Ophthalmology Medical Assistant/technician
Two doctor eye surgery practice in Rockville, Maryland seeks an energetic, versatile and personable individual to perform wide range of medical and administrative activities. We prefer a candidate who can start ASAP. This is a great opportunity for both a recent college graduate with no experience and an experienced tech. Our work environment encourages learning and personal development. Many of our former assistants have gone on to graduate school to become physicians, physician assistants, nurses and optometrists. Clinical duties include using high-tech computerized instruments to measure intraocular pressure, keratometry, lensometry, visual fields, laser biometry, retinal photography, ocular tomography, autorefraction and corneal topography.
Other duties include screening patients for exams, measuring vision, history taking, and setting up instruments for surgical procedures.
You will be taught administrative activities including reception, scheduling and surgical planning. We provide materials for home study to rapidly learn the above procedures.
