Optician measures and fits contact lenses and eyeglass frames based on prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists. Takes precision measurements of eyes using a pupilometer and other devices to ensure proper fit of eyeglasses or contact lenses. Being an Optician assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Inspects lenses for quality, fits and adjusts eyewear, and repairs eyewear as needed. Additionally, Optician instructs customer on correct eyeglasses and contact lens care and maintenance. May process work orders and sales. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Applicable License. Requires Licensed Optician. Typically reports to a manager. Shift & Pay
Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 5:00pm
$18/hr - $20/hr
Responsibilities- Interprets prescription and consults with prescribing physicians as appropriate.
- Assists patients in choosing appropriate frames and lenses based on prescription, fit, lifestyle, and preference.
- Offers patients information on lenses, coatings, sunglasses, multiple pair discounts, warranties, return policies and other miscellaneous information.
- Takes optical measurements necessary for eyewear preparation.
- Adjust frames and perform frame repairs to patient satisfaction.
- Place orders with frame vendors and the lens lab throughout the day.
- Enter orders into the computer system under the optical section throughout the day.
- Performs quality inspection of lenses and frames before dispensing to patients.
Skills- At least 1 year of previous Optician experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- ABO certification preferred
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic
- Knowledge of computer systems, programs, applications, and data entry skills
- At least 1 year of previous Optical sales office experience
- Willingness to learn new skills
