Paralegal Supervisor supervises the paralegal team and implements systems and processes utilized to conduct research and produce legal documents. Coordinates the preparation of legal documents and tracks projects to ensure the work is completed accurately and on time. Being a Paralegal Supervisor organizes documents into formal report and proofs for attorneys. Trains paralegals to effectively utilize databases and legal libraries to conduct research. Additionally, Paralegal Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Paralegal Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. The Paralegal 1 prepares, and files required documents with government entities, including Departments of Insurance and Secretaries of State, on behalf of Humana and its subsidiaries, and drafts documentation and maintains corporate records for those entities.
Additionally, the Paralegal 1:
Maintains the books and records of over thirty subsidiary companies, prepares resolutions to effect actions taken by the boards of directors and routinely interacts with directors and senior officers.
Routinely collaborates with key Humana business segments to support the Company’s strategic initiatives and to provide general corporate guidance.
Supports certain internal and external audit operations, equity compliance functions and ad hoc administrative functions for the Office of the Corporate Secretary.
May also work with in-house attorneys and other paralegals, as well as, outside counsel on specialized projects requiring legal research and analysis.
Work often involves regular direct communication with various regulators and agencies in response to inquiries, requests for information and submission of documents.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, paralegal studies degree, or paralegal certificate
Minimum 1 year of corporate law, compliance department or law firm paralegal experience
Effective interpersonal, teaming and communication skills
Excellent research and writing skills
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (emphasis in Word, Excel, and Outlook), Microsoft Teams, Adobe Professional
Proven organizational skills, time management, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple and/or competing priorities within designated time frames
Preferred Qualifications
Experience interacting with state and/or federal regulators
Corporate insurance law, compliance, or law firm paralegal with experience in Medicare/Medicaid insurance
Under supervision of an assigned attorney, demonstrate acumen to review, analyze, populate, and respond to legal materials including, (i) a broad range of agreements and related documents; (ii) insurance related statutes and regulations; and (iii) legal forms.
