Parts Director oversees all parts operations including accounting, parts systems, processes and procedures. Improves parts operations to facilitate growth and successfully achieve the company's long-term strategic goals. Being a Parts Director designs policies and procedures for inspection, handling, and processing of parts to be exchanged. Ensures materials and parts are available in accordance with production schedules and commitments. Additionally, Parts Director reviews the parts inventory database and evaluates strategies to optimize inventory. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Parts Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Parts Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     I. General Job Description


    This position will utilize their knowledge and negotiation skills to define and implement the company’s strategic plans and objectives and ensures management controls and best practices are shared across all operations.

    Responsibilities

    Parts Sales Business Plan Objectives

    • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the parts' fiscal function and performance. 
    • Parts net and gross profits are maintained at or above the target.
    • Expenses are minimized and properly controlled.
    • Capital Expenditures are planned and defined.
    • Work closely with Outside Sales Manager(s) and Parts Salesmen to identify growth opportunities in order to meet or beat industry growth standards.
    • Variance is monitored between plan and actual and corrective action is taken as appropriate. 

    Dealer Certification

    • Conformance to OEM dealer Standard of Excellent requirements.
    • Staff is knowledgeable on latest OEM products and services.
    • OEM and supplier IT systems are used to efficiently access information.

    Customer Service

    • Dedicated outside parts sales and delivery vehicles are utilized.
    • Connect Systems are used to enhance ease of doing business with dealer. 
    • Maintain strong working relationships with key customers and identify and acquire new customers.
    • . Accounts receivables are managed effectively.

    Operations

    • Continuously look for improvement opportunities within the Parts Department and implement as necessary.
    • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) documents for all Parts Department roles.
    • Create training documents for all positions to reference (training guide, FAQ’s)
    • Works closely with Parts Managers to ensure training workbook goals are met.

    II. Minimum Job Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on business or transportation or equivalent work experience.
    • 10 years of experience in the Class 8 truck/transportation industry.

    III. Desired Job Qualifications

    • Proven experience in customer service.
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
    • Strong organization and communication skills.
    • Strong leadership and managerial skills.

    IV. Mental Capability Requirements

    • Comprehension: Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues, negotiate, and integrate different viewpoints.
    • Organization: Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on long-term basis.
    • Reasoning & Decision Making: Ability to make decisions with significant impact on department’s credibility, operations, and services.
    • Communication: Ability to formulate complex and comprehensive materials, such as legal documents, authoritative reports, official publications of major scope and impacts, and make formal presentations.
    • Mathematics: Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret complex statistical data and develop forecasts and computer models.
