Patient Accounts Representative organizes inpatient and outpatient claims for electronic or hard copy mail and forwards to appropriate third party payers. Reviews claims to make sure that payer specific billing requirements are met, follows-up on billing, determines and applies appropriate adjustments, answers inquiries, and updates accounts as necessary. Being a Patient Accounts Representative requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Patient Accounts Representative works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Will plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease or prevent deformity of patients suffering from disease or injury. Possess knowledge and demonstrate competency in all applicable company, federal, and state safety guidelines. Primary assignments is Monday-Friday, but will be required to work share of weekends and holidays.
Must have or be eligible for State of Maine licensure. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will be motivated and self-directed. Previous experience in pediatric rehabilitation and Medicare reimbursement rules desired. Must be willing to work share of weekends and holidays on the Acute Care Unit
Knowledge of medical billing, medical office or general business practices an asset. Must possess knowledge of office clerical functions, computerized office applications, customer relations principles. Able to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner. Must demonstrate empathy, respectfulness and positive customer relations, both in person and on the telephone. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, work independently, demonstrate good judgment, and respond in a pleasant manner to patients and staff.
