Patient Safety Manager manages a staff responsible for developing and implementing patient safety programs. Supervises the investigation of errors and then plans for resolution of all safety related incidents, including those involving employees, visitors, patients, and situations posing a threat to the hospital's buildings and equipment. Being a Patient Safety Manager maintains records of patient-related errors and evaluates this information in order to identify the cause of the error. Collects, reviews, and analyzes information from the facility's safety programs to identify corrective action and programs as necessary. Additionally, Patient Safety Manager recommends changes, policies, or programs that could prevent future errors. Designs and presents training programs meant to increase awareness of patient safety initiatives. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Patient Safety Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Patient Safety Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Patient Safety Attendant functions as a clinical support partner to ensure the safety of patients who require continual observation.

    Shift Details:

    Full time, Evening/Night Shift, 36 hours/week

    Scope

    As a Patient Safety Attendant with us, you will know how to:
    • Observe patient behavior and maintains patient safety.
    • Maintain an uninterrupted line of sight with the patient and will be required to assist the patient in completion of daily personal care.
    • Reports any and all activity outside of established parameters to the Nurse Manager, Professional Registered Nurse, or delegated Licensed Practical Nurse.
    • Obtain report from the assigned nurse or from the current sitter. Remain with the patient until relieved for breaks, meals and shift change.
    • Accompany patient to other departments when patient is scheduled for tests/treatments.
    • Notify the patients assigned nurse of any change in patients mental status or condition immediately. Notify the nurse of any safety concerns.
    • Orientate patient on use of call bell, bed controls, phone, lights and bathroom.
    • Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
    • May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
    • May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (with prior approval)

    Physical Requirements:
    Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
