Payroll Administrator jobs in Michigan
Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, distribution and reconciliation of payroll and the administration of the payroll system. Reviews the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy. Being a Payroll Administrator maintains up-to-date knowledge of city, state, provincial, local, and federal legislation affecting payroll; understands and follows applicable provisions. Prepares required tax filings and other reporting. Additionally, Payroll Administrator may coordinate payroll processing with an outside service provider. Responds to and resolves any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting. Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Payroll Administrator work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. We are looking for an efficient HR Personnel Administrator who will be responsible for all aspects of managing salary data, ensuring timesheets are accurate, and payments are made on time. The ideal candidate will provide administrative support by maintaining attendance tracking programs, processing payroll updates, maintaining files, and managing communications for the HR Department.
HR Personnel Administrator Position Duties- Evaluate the accuracy of timesheets submitted by each company department every week and contact supervisors or individual employees if there is a discrepancy
- Manage electronic timekeeping systems
- Enter information accurately into the payroll system, including employee taxes, exemptions, transfers, and firings/resignations, as details change
- Respond to any errors in payroll by reviewing past records and making wage corrections or adjustments, when necessary
- Track employee absences through the payroll software and recording details about personal days, sick leave, jury duty, or extended leaves of absence
- Track employee vacation accruals, approving/denying time off requests, and posting vacation calendars
- Answer employee questions about payroll, leave amounts, tax forms, and other compensation issues
- Participate in new employee orientation
- Handle other duties, as assigned or deemed necessary by supervisors
- Prior payroll experience required
- Strong understanding of employment and payroll taxes
- Strong basic accounting and math skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Experience operating in a union environment preferred
- High School Diploma or GED required; College Degree or coursework in advanced math, finance, accounting, business, or other related field preferred
