Pharmacist - Retail reviews prescriptions and compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs according to regulatory requirements and guidelines in a retail environment. Responds to customers questions about medications and advises about drug safety and potential interactions. Being a Pharmacist - Retail manages the transfer of prescriptions, incoming physician calls, and drug utilization review. Ensures that pharmacy's patient and financial records are correctly input and maintained. Additionally, Pharmacist - Retail requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires registered pharmacist(RPh). Requires pharmacy practice. Pharmacist - Retail's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Essential Functions
Share responsibility for all clinical services provided by the pharmacy, to include, but not limited to, anticoagulation clinic, rheumatology service, diabetes monitoring, chemotherapy service, etc., for inpatient, outpatient and long-term care settings.
Supervise the distributive functions within the pharmacy to include, but not limited to, inventory, ordering and storage, verification of physician orders, calculation of dosages and dispensing, administration, expiration, etc.
Supervise the IV admixture services provided by the pharmacy, according to law and current USP standards of sterile compounding as required by the State Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Board of Health
Share an equal responsibility for drug therapy outcomes by working closely with providers on medication selection and usage
Participate in the formulary review process, monitor drug usage and cost effectiveness, and adhere to current practice standards
Share precesponsibility for pharmacy students, provide staff education, and serve on P&T and other committees when appropriate
