Pharmacy Purchasing Agent jobs in North Carolina
Pharmacy Purchasing Agent liaisons between buyers and manufacturer's representatives to ensure that the organization purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment that meet quality standards while minimizing costs. Ensures adequate levels of drugs and supplies are available in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies and that purchases do not exceed budget. Being a Pharmacy Purchasing Agent requires a high school diploma. Requires certification as a pharmacy technician and licensure from the State Board of Pharmacy. Additionally, Pharmacy Purchasing Agent typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Pharmacy Purchasing Agent occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Summary:
Procures a variety of services, equipment, and supplies on behalf of pharmacy departments. Serves as a resource for inventory management practices through the use of technology and automation. Understands and applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizes technology to order medications, order departmental supplies and optimize contract purchases to maintain inventory within guidelines set by Pharmacy Leadership.
- Maintains relationships with wholesaler and GPO to address supply needs and contract compliance.
- Utilizes technology and collaborates with accounting for purchasing and invoice payment of supplies and services.
- Accurately completes and maintains controlled substance documentation (DEA 222 forms, invoices, etc)
- Consistently demonstrates good time management by making priorities, working in an efficient and productive manner, and reducing non-essential interruptions to maintain efficient workflow.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose a course of action in general problem solving and refers all clinical questions to a Pharmacist.

Qualifications
Required
- Must be credentialed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Four (4) years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician with two (2) years in a hospital pharmacy.
- Must have considerable math, computer keyboarding and guest relations skills.
- Must be able to work in a diversified position with a moderate level of independence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Associate Degree
- Formal training as a pharmacy technician from an educational institution or hospital.
