Physician Assistant - Surgical under the direction of physician, performs first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing. Completes pre-op tasks including physical examinations and recording health history. Being a Physician Assistant - Surgical orders appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Participates in daily patient rounds, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries Requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Additionally, Physician Assistant - Surgical requires a master's degree of Health Sciences for Physician Assistants or related. Typically reports to a physician. Requires Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). Requires State license to practice. Physician Assistant - Surgical's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. - JOB SUMMARYThe Physician Assistant – Ambulatory Services will provide healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician and allowed by state and federal regulations.
- EDUCATION
- Must be a graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program
- LICENSURE
- Current license as a Physician Assistant in the state of West Virginia.
- EXPERIENCE
- Prefer minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility/clinic in area of specialty.
- CERTIFICATION
- Must hold NCCPA certification and be eligible for licensure as Physician Assistant in West Virginia and maintain certification.
- Healthcare BLS validation required within 60 days of employment, with revalidation per AHA guidelines thereafter; ACLS preferred.
- COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
- Standard office and medical equipment with emphasis on electronic health records, and various clinical equipment that may be used to carry out the duties of the position.
- Excellent computer skills are necessary to perform various job duties in the clinical area.

- Knowledge:
- Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
- Knowledge of specific tasks related to particular medical practice.
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
- Knowledge of federal, state and other regulations affecting physician assistants.

- Skill in performing Physician Assistant responsibilities appropriately.
- Skill in managing time, maintaining timely patient and process flow.
- Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Abilities:
- Ability to learn and retain information and work independently.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
- Ability to not deviate from scope of practice allowed by state/federal regulation
