Position Summary
Performs receptionist and clerical duties in support of the Tribal Court.
Supervision Exercised
Reports to the Court Administrator
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- General receptionist duties as assigned.
- Receives court filed complaints, petitions and motions.
- Sends out notices of court schedules.
- Swears in witnesses and parties.
- Records proceedings as assigned and takes notes.
- May prepare courtroom and/or equipment.
- Drafts court orders as assigned.
- Issues final court orders.
- Clears cases by judgment authorized.
- Receives revenues, enters into ledger accounts, and reconciles.
- Files documents in accordance with administrative procedures and legal requirements.
- Maintains billing and client accounts.
- Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to meet minimum age requirements.
- Ability to pass stringent background investigation.
- Ability to operate general computerized office machines and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Ability to work odd and unusual hours and stand-by court schedules.
- Basic understanding of court statutes and rulings.
- Knowledge of specialty assigned and Tribal Court clerical procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and/or accounting practices.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma, GED certificate or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience performing clerical functions in a legal office or courtroom setting
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License
Licensing Status
- Must be able to successfully pass a background and character investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
- Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.
