    BL Companies has an opening in its Warwick, RI office. Qualified candidates should understand the various phases of design from concepts and planning through the completion of construction documents. Candidates should be highly motivated and able to work in a collaborative team environment. Projects would involve private and public sector work, including but not limited to recreational facilities, trails, parks, streetscapes, campus, commercial, retail and residential land development.

    Responsibilities

    • Compiles data as required, on site conditions such as town mapping, boundary information, site access, geographic location, historic information, soil, vegetation, rock features, topography, drainage and location of structures for site analysis, master planning and design.
    • Researches and understands applicable zoning regulations, wetland regulations and the permit approval process particular to a specific project. Understands design requirements and limitations based on regulations and related report recommendations.
    • Designs and prepares small and intermediate design projects and assists with complex large scale projects including, site analysis, master plans, concept plans, preliminary plans, design development plans and permitting documents used for submission to the client and regulatory agencies (planning and zoning, inland wetlands, zoning hearing boards, township councils, zoning board of appeals, DEP, DEQ, ACOE, etc.). This work and all submissions to regulatory agencies shall be under the supervision and in collaboration with a Senior Landscape Architect or Project Manager.
    • Prepares detailed drawings of site, grading, planting, utility, erosion controls, streetscape road or drainage plans, cross-sections, profiles, detail sheets and general notes, graphic illustrations and color renderings, and quantity estimates/opinions of cost.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture
    • 5 years' experience in Landscape Architecture - parks, sports and recreation experience would be a plus
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD
    • Experience with Photoshop, Sketch-up, Lumion and/or other 3D computer rendering programs is highly desirable
    • Candidate should have a working knowledge of plants, site planning, strong graphic skills and the ability to work independently in the field
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Occasional travel to other offices and sites
    • Licensure is preferred but not required.
