Job Description:

As the Controller at Great Plains Transportation, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations and ensuring the integrity of our accounting processes. Working closely with the executive team, you will be responsible for managing financial reporting and internal controls. In addition, you will provide strategic insights to drive business performance and optimize profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

• McLeod System Expertise: Utilize your in-depth knowledge and experience with the McLeod system to optimize its functionality for our business operations. This includes overseeing system configuration, data management, and reporting capabilities.

• Managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the company: Oversee the accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions. Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and payroll. Assist with audit and tax preparation activities. Learn each of the accounting positions and function as a back up to the accounting team for planned and unplanned absences.

• Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Manage the monthly close process. Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. This includes the ability to perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies as needed.

• Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Conduct periodic audits and implement corrective actions as needed.

• Cash Flow Management: Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable processes to minimize risk and maximize liquidity. Provide actionable insights to drive operational efficiencies and cost savings.

• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.

3 years of experience in a Controller or similar role in the trucking or transportation industry.

Proficiency in using the McLeod system or similar transportation management software.

Strong understanding of financial reporting principles and internal controls.

Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
