Plant Superintendent supervises and coordinates workers' activities in all phases of plant operations. Develops and manages production and maintenance schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals. Being a Plant Superintendent utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity, identify issues, and achieve production goals. Troubleshoots operational, materials, equipment, and staffing problems and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Plant Superintendent implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Plant Superintendent manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Plant Superintendent typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The Plant Superintendent plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the flexographic printing and bag making departments. The Plant Superintendent supervises, manages and directs all production employees and supervisors. The Plant Superintendent will schedule production in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible to meet orders on time and produce a good quality product.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES: Supervise, manage, coordinate, and direct operation of the entire production facility, including decision- making regarding installation and repairs of major equipment, the production workforce, and related- policies and procedures. Communicates and ensures execution of production schedule; makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals. Ensures efficient collaboration and coordination between production, quality, safety, maintenance, warehouse, procurement and management. Review concerns with supervisor to determine if machine maintenance is needed. Works on the production lines whenever unexpected absenteeism occurs, or when needed to meet customer needs in bag production, material handling and printing areas. Communicates production targets and product specifications to production team. Analyze production, maintenance and quality control data to complete root cause analysis and implement corrective action. Promotes and facilitates the personal development of Team members by identifying the need for training and provide training. Ensures required paperwork, all inventory, scrap, etc. are logged accurately. Ensures 5S standards are followed according to visual aids in the department. Understands the flow of the robot palletizing area and roles associated with the area. Maintain excellent working conditions, a safe work environment, and high morale within the plant. Other duties related to day-to-day issues that may arise, as assigned by the Plant Manager. Ability to work over as the job requires.   OTHER SIGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:  Demonstrates and enforces health and safety procedures, including always wearing PPE, and sets an example for others for model safety behavior. Implements and monitors cost control programs to reduce scrap. Ensure product meets customer quality standards. Conform to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures and policies to assure products are suitable for food contact. Responsible for reporting any product quality or food safety issues to the Quality Manager (SQF Practitioner) or Management Team member. Additional duties as assigned.   REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma minimum required, higher education or training preferred. 10 years’ experience in manufacturing. Demonstrate basic computer skills. 5 years experience in manager/supervisor role.   PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: College/Trade School degree in manufacturing.   REQUIRED SKILLS (Technical, Clerical, Language, etc.): Implementing and sustaining lean manufacturing principles. Strong Communication Skills (internally & externally). Flexographic Printing Knowledge Preferred. Bag Making Knowledge Preferred. Mechanical Knowledge. Excellent time management skills (able to balance/prioritize multiple projects with a broad variety of issues, initiatives and objectives concurrently). Working knowledge of OSHA, SQF, GMP regulations. Strong Computer Knowledge, especially Microsoft Excel. General knowledge of business principles (finance, accounting, HR, management, etc). Ability to coach & mentor employees on a one-on-one basis as well as a group. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Fluent in English required. Fluency in Spanish a plus.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Constant standing, walking, talking, hearing; occasional sitting; specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. The position also requires the ability to stand 90% of shift and lift up to 45 pounds.
