Platemaker creates offset or flexo press plates according to job specifications and established procedures using platemaking, testing and computer equipment. Performs quality inspection of plates to ensure they meet specifications and to identify any imperfections. Being a Platemaker maintains production records according to required protocols. Cleans processing equipment and maintains supply inventory. Additionally, Platemaker follows all required quality and safety procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Platemaker works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. High school diploma or general education degree (GED), however a post high school education with emphasis in Graphic Design or Communications is encouraged or 5 plus years of related experience in the label industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present and communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
