Plumber inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains plumbing fixtures and piping in heating, water and drainage systems. Identifies plumbing and safety problems applicable to the installation and takes necessary corrective action using appropriate parts and tools. Being a Plumber complies with all required safety, building code and inspection requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, and other instructions. Additionally, Plumber has completed required apprenticeship. Typically requires a high school diploma. Requires Journeyman Plumber status. Requires a State License for plumbing. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Plumber works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Locate and repair plumbing problems in NSB and approved residential buildings in accordance with mechanical and plumbing codes.
Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
Monitor pressure gages while filling pipe system with water or air to determine whether system's leaking.
Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on NSB facilities and residential buildings.
Periodical duties such as carpentry and basic maintenance.
Travel to and work within NSB villages to perform services as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.
Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Two year of plumbing maintenance experience;
State of Alaska Plumber Certification or License required;
Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
