Associate Director, Technology Policy Project

    BPC is currently seeking an Associate Director for its Technology Policy Project. This position would focus primarily on the technology project’s AI initiative, which works to foster AI literacy and education in the government. This person will work with our team to foster and manage relationships with policymakers, academia, industry, and tech stakeholders. They will have the opportunity to lead research on relevant policy issues and write published content. Through this initiative, BPC and its 501c4 partner, BPC Action (BPCA), will foster a culture of informed legislative deliberation to transform the political and media cycles.

    Responsibilities

    • Foster relationships and partnerships with thought leaders and congressional groups; staffing task forces, working groups, and other initiatives; advise congressional staff on a variety of AI issues;
    • Develop AI curriculum and explainers that will be taught at workshops throughout the year;
    • Research and analyze congressional legislation for a wide range of technology areas, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Content Moderation;
    • Write and edit a variety of documents ranging from detailed reports and policy briefs to memoranda, blog posts, and op-eds;
    • Track and analyze relevant government and policy documents, including legislation, regulations, other agency guidance, and academic and policy research to inform policymaking;
    • Participate as part of a team to develop policy options, identify and conduct outreach to tech policy stakeholders, including civil society groups, the private sector, academic stakeholders, and local governments;
    • Brief and provide technical assistance to external stakeholders, including congressional and agency staff, in partnership with the Bipartisan Policy Center Action (BPC Action) and internal and external audiences;
    • Grant writing and funder updates;
    • Engaging on other meaningful tasks, such as planning events and communicating BPC’s work through a variety of media.


    Qualifications

    • Minimum of five years of background experience in tech policy, including specific experience with Congress and with AI-related policy proposals;
    • Experience conducting policy or economic research, including quantitative and qualitative approaches;
    • Strong communication and marketing skills, ability to plan and manage events;
    • Ability to craft and teach educational courses on highly technical topics;
    • Familiarity with congressional and regulatory processes, the federal budget process, and agencies such as FTC, FCC, and OMB, and the ability to find and analyze congressional and federal agency documents;
    • At least three years of experience working with Congress, a government agency, or in government affairs;
    • Strong research and writing skills;
    • Effective networking and interpersonal skills;
    • Demonstrated ability to develop ideas and execute them;
    • Ability to multi-task, work as part of a team, and produce documents quickly and efficiently;
    • Advanced degree preferred, including a JD or Master’s degree in tech policy, public policy, economic policy, or related field.
