M
Director, Delivering on Equity Collective
  • Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center
  • Boston, MA FULL_TIME
  • We are seeking a Director for the Delivering on Equity Collective (DOE). The Collective is anchored by the Massachusetts Budget & Policy Center (MassBudget), Massachusetts Communities Action Network (MCAN), and the Massachusetts Voter Table (MVT) and has 25 member organizations across Massachusetts.

The Collective was formed to build an intersectional movement for justice in communities that the Commonwealth has long neglected. It brings together the collective assets of community organizations from across the state (civic engagement, faith-based organizing, research, communications, and resource development). The fate of our families, communities, and livelihoods is intertwined with the state budget through tax equity, housing, public education, public transit, employment, entrepreneurship, and more. Therefore, DOE will organize BIPOC and working-class communities to advance economic and racial equity through state budget advocacy.

This position is a multi-year grant-funded position. The Director will be a MassBudget employee and will also have dotted lines of supervision to leaders of the DOE anchor organizations. This position will require the employee to become a registered lobbyist in the state of Massachusetts as soon as possible after hiring. Due to the relationship-building nature of this position, preference will be given to candidates who reside in Massachusetts.

    Responsibilities

The extent to which the person filling this role will focus on each of the responsibilities will be based on experience and skill set.

    Cross-organization planning and programming:

    • Lead planning for statewide gatherings that help advance the Collective’s work
    • Facilitate regular DOE planning meetings and communication among anchor organizations
    • Be intimately familiar with the work of the three anchor organizations by attending regular and appropriate internal meetings (e.g. MCAN Director meetings, Democracy HUBS statewide convenings, etc.)
    • Identify opportunities for and help facilitate trainings and collaboration among member organizations to better understand the Massachusetts state budget as a lever for social change.
    • Work with DOE member organizations to create a shared statewide power analysis and organizing plan to advance an antiracist state budget

    Fundraising & Finance:

    • Tell the story of who we are and what we are fighting for in order to engage, cultivate, and secure new funding opportunities, from both individuals and philanthropic organizations
    • Lead on writing grants in coordination with anchor organizations

    Required Skills and Experience

    • Commitment to antiracism and to building racial and economic equity in alignment with the Delivering on Equity Collective’s mission
    • Minimum 5 years of dedicated community organizing, policy advocacy, and/or program and coalition management experience
    • Detail-oriented collaborator who has proven experience managing deadlines effectively
    • Ability to manage up and support the DOE anchor organization leaders with moving forward their DOE responsibilities
    • Experience identifying, developing, and managing new leaders

    Desired Skills and Experience

    • Experience managing budgets and grant tracking
    • Experience writing community-centered grant applications with partner organizations
    • Understanding of local and state policy
    • Experience with legislative advocacy
    • Experience with coalition organizing
    • Fluent in a second language that is prevalent in Massachusetts
    • Knowledge of online platforms like WordPress, Click Up, Slack, and Google Suite

MassBudget is on its journey to becoming an antiracist organization, one that is a safe, inclusive workplace for people of all backgrounds and walks of life. Some candidates may see a long list of job requirements and feel discouraged because they don’t match every single bullet point – we suggest that you please apply anyway.

    Salary and Benefits

The person in this position is a MassBudget employee. MassBudget has a 35-hour work week; this position is full time. MassBudget is a remote-first organization; though, staff may be required to attend in-person meetings and events as needed during the course of business.

The salary range is $87,000-$100,000. In an effort to increase equity and because salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, MassBudget will not participate in a salary negotiation process for any position. MassBudget will make its best offer, and it will use the same criteria regardless of the staff member or position, current or potential.

MassBudget currently provides generous benefits including: paying 100% of health, vision, and dental care premiums; short-term family and medical leave; long-term disability insurance; life insurance; accidental death insurance; wellness benefit; employer contribution to a flexible spending account or health savings account; at least 3 weeks of vacation annually; 15 paid wellness days annually; and employer contribution 5% of salary to employees’ 401k plans.

    How to Apply

This is a rolling application, but applicants are strongly encouraged to apply before June 7, 2024. The position is open until filled.

Please email résumé and cover letter to jobs@massbudget.org. Put “LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, Applicant for DOE Director” in the subject line of the email. Please note: Applications submitted via LinkedIn will not be considered.

As part of its work on building an antiracist organization, MassBudget does not discriminate against any applicant because of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, physical or mental handicap, parental status, marital status, military status or past criminal conviction.
