Being a Portfolio Manager monitors daily investment activities to be aware of market changes. Considers legal and tax impact of investment decisions. In addition, Portfolio Manager may manage a team of portfolio manages. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1. Being a Portfolio Manager gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Primary Job Function:


    Thornburg is seeking an experienced fixed income investor to assist with the fast-paced growth of its fixed income franchise. A successful candidate will have the knowledge and skills to conduct fundamental credit analysis and manage portfolios within the global fixed income umbrella. This team member is expected to investigate and provide fundamental analysis for new and existing high yield corporate positions, leading to well-formulated theses and recommendations to portfolio teams. This individual will also play a key role in the launch and management of additional products that utilize and/or support current strategies. All team members are expected to contribute to the success of all Thornburg investment strategies, which requires the ability to identify investment opportunities across sectors, geographies, and investment styles.


    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Recommend fixed income securities, particularly high yield corporate credits for investment across Thornburg fixed income and multi-asset portfolios. 
    • Help launch and manage new and existing separately management accounts (SMA) and completion portfolios that track broader Thornburg fixed income strategies.
    • Collaborate with groups across the firm to lead the growth of Thornburg’s SMA platform.
    • Use finance, accounting, economic and other skills to identify, analyze and create investment arguments based on an investment’s fundamentals and relative value proposition. 
    • Effectively communicate investment recommendations and broader economic, sector or portfolio thoughts to the entire team both written and orally. 
    • Monitor individual securities on an ongoing basis. Deliver timely and thorough updates.
    • Serve  in a global generalist capacity, with coverage responsibilities spanning geographies and industries, as well as asset sectors as needed.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree - required; Advanced degree and/or progress toward CFA - preferred.
    • Experience analyzing high yield corporate credit such as bonds and bank loans - required; Experience covering credits from a range of industries and geographies - highly preferred.
    • Portfolio management experience - required.
    • Private credit experience - preferred.
    • 5 years of experience as a buyside or sellside high yield credit analyst.
    • Strong analytical skills including financial, accounting, economic and ESG knowledge.
    • Series 7 & 63 licenses, or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
