The Connecticut Democracy Center (CTDC) is seeking an experienced, full-time Producer to work on television productions originating from the Connecticut Network (CT-N) in Hartford.
The Connecticut Democracy Center provides people with a lifetime pathway to active citizenship and the tools to take civic action in their own communities. Our mission is to inspire people of all ages to engage in civic life and strengthen their communities. We envision a society where everyone is empowered to participate in our democracy. Beginning with the launch of CT-N in 1999 and the start of its relationship with Connecticut’s Old State House in 2008, the Democracy Center’s successful public-private partnerships with the Connecticut General Assembly has provided the first critical milestones along our Lifetime Pathway, complimented and augmented by our independent initiatives.
The Producer is part of the team responsible for researching, writing and proof-reading graphics to support network programming. The Producer is responsible for compiling event information and event elements for production staff prior to coverage. Under the direction of the Executive Producer the Producer will write, edit and proof on-screen graphics that include accurate participant names/titles and informational graphics that explain government process. During live events the Producer provides support to production staff with real-time names/information and acts as liaison to legislative committees, state agencies and event organizers. The Producer participants in weekly programming meetings to discuss coverage options and provides occasional back-up to the Assignment Manager position.
The ideal candidate will successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment using superior communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent writing skills are a must including a proven demonstration of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. A strong background in rigorous research and information gathering skills with a keen attention to detail are highly desirable. You must function well independently and as part of a highly motivated team while meeting tight deadlines. Knowledge of state government, the legislative process and video/audio technology a plus! Flexibility in work schedules required, working scheduled or unscheduled overtime as needed. You must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
CTDC offers an hourly rate of $20-$23/hr.
