    Position Summary

    The Department of Computer Science in the School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico is seeking a highly motivated and energetic professional accountant. Computer Science is a highly research-active academic department that is looking for someone with attention to detail and strong fundamental accounting skills.

    The qualified candidate will be responsible for managing funds, including monitoring and monthly reconciliation of indexes, preparing, and updating monthly financial statements and projection reports, and processing financial transactions such as labor redistributions, journal vouchers, and requisitions. The ideal candidate is a motivated, self-starter with a strong accounting background in both unrestricted and sponsored projects accounting (i.e., Grants and Contracts).

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • BA in Accounting or Finance
    • At least 3 years accounting experience and demonstrated ability in creating budgets and monitoring/analyzing fiscal operations
    • Proficient in MS Excel to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare financial reports
    • Experience working in Banner Finance and MyReports (or similar financial systems) and preparing financial reports
    • Knowledge of standard and/or fund accounting principles, methods and applications
    • Knowledge of Restricted accounting (sponsored projects, grants)
    • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of organization
    • Ability to initiate various accounting transactions (journal entries, labor distributions)
