Assistant/Associate Professor of Education

  • Midland University, a private, faith-based, liberal arts university in Fremont, Nebraska (just outside of metro Omaha), is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Education to provide instruction and to serve as the Secondary Education Coordinator in the Walker School of Education. The Walker School of Education provides a Teacher Education Program fully accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education.

    Description of Key Responsibilities:

    • Instruct courses that provide foundation and methods with a focus on secondary education. (approximately 24 credit hours /year). Including:
      • Topics in Education; Topics in Social Emotional Learning, Reading and Writing in the Content Area; Secondary Methods, Technology for Teachers; Introduction to Middle and Secondary School Education
    • Participate in the supervision of students during field-based experiences (FBE) and/or clinical experience.
    • Develop and implement continuous improvement for curriculum, instruction and assessment that aligns with state standards.
    • Help with mentoring adjunct faculty and with students.
    • Collaborate and communicate with staff and administration of Midland University.
    • Serve as the Secondary Education Coordinator:
    • who is responsible for data collection regarding program goals and for state reporting for program review when necessary.
    • who communicates with faculty and staff in other University departments that provide content instruction for secondary students.
    • Assist with the hiring of full time and adjunct faculty.
    • Participate in department and university wide meetings and professional development.
    • Partners across the university on student recruiting, retention, and graduation.
    • Measure and analyze program outcomes for continuous improvement.
    • Innovative teaching using high impact practices

    The ideal candidate will possess the following:

    • Minimum of a Master's degree in relevant field; doctorate preferred
    • Relevant practical experience

    Candidate Qualifications:

    • A Master's Degree in Education is required, along with an active or past secondary teaching endorsement. A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education is preferred.
    • Evidence of effective teaching in a secondary setting is required; post-secondary teaching and development of curriculum experience is preferred.
    • Have a minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching experience.
    • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to be able to travel within the work day.

    • The ability to facilitate meaningful experiences and reflection for teacher candidates who are learning to respond to coaching, understand content, build learning communities, support all learners, plan and deliver effective instruction, and model professionalism.
    • The ability to effectively work with a diverse, multi-cultural population with comfort, teaching effectively across the spectrum of secondary education.

    Compensation:
