Being a Professor - Environmental Engineering provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Environmental Engineering typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     Your Role:

    Tetra Tech, Inc. is currently seeking an Engineering or Environmental Science Intern for our Chicago, IL office to learn the general principles of environmental consulting and develop skills related to their program of study. The intern will work full-time during the summer and will have the opportunity to work on projects in a variety of areas in environmental consulting, including contaminated site assessment and remediation, natural resource management, emergency and disaster response, Brownfield redevelopment, environmental compliance, and waste management.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Records review.
    • Data management and organization.
    • Data analysis.
    • Report writing and compilation.
    • Opportunities for field work support such as environmental site assessments, multi-media sampling, and facility audits and inspections are also provided.

    In addition, this position requires:

    • Renting a vehicle through our company rental program, which has a minimum age requirement of 21
    • Driving on a regular basis, therefore, passing a motor vehicle record background check.
    • Maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record.
    • Passing a criminal background check.

    Qualifications:

    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Strong technical writing skills.
    • Spoken and written fluency in English.
    • Work well in a team environment.
    • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet software, and databases preferred.  
    • Other relevant work experience a plus.

    Education/Skills:

    • Qualified candidate should be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate environmental science or civil/environmental engineering program. 
    • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training a plus. 

    Physical Demands:

    • Heavy lifting of field sampling and other equipment will be required. 
    • Must meet physical demands of hazardous waste site work.

     

    Work Environment:

    • Must be able to commute to our downtown Chicago office.
    • This position requires roughly 25% travel.
    • Transportation for field work provided.
    • Candidate may be exposed to various weather conditions while performing field work outdoors.
