Professor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • Job Responsibilities


    Full-time faculty member provides leadership, management, planning & coordination of instruction of students in teaching college courses in Sociology, participate in curri-culum & instructional material development, assessment functions to include program learning outcomes & student learning outcomes, student advisement responsibilities, enrollment & registration, student recruitment & retention activities, participate in college outreach activities, college committees, community service, & other assigned duties. Participate in departmental, division, & college planning sessions in actively reaching & communicating the college's mission & goals, & professional development activities.


    Minimum And Additional Requirements


    Faculty teaching associate degree courses designed for transfer to the baccalaureate degree: doctor's or master's degree in the teaching discipline, Sociology, or a master's degree or higher with concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline-Sociology) from an accredited institution of higher education.


    Preferred Qualifications


    Prefer dual credentials to teach in both Psychology and Sociology, and prefer experience in teaching at a two-year college.
