The Goodwin University Magnet School System in East Hartford, CT, has an immediate opening for an
Assistant Director of the Connecticut River Academy Middle Level Program.
GENERAL SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Assistant Director assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with district goals and objects.
RELATIONSHIP WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION:
The Assistant Director of the Connecticut River Academy Middle Level Program partners with the Director of Connecticut River Academy Middle level and is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Goodwin University Magnet School System and will supervise staff members as assigned. The Assistant Director will be evaluated through LEARN’s administrator evaluation process.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director shall
- Provide instructional leadership and assist in the development of curriculum and instructional programs
- Implement restorative justice disciplinary measures within the school
- Support the Director to establish and maintain high expectations and standards for student learning and behavior
- Ability to effectively analyze and utilize data to drive instruction and organizational excellence
- Participate in development and implementation of school goals and performance plans
- Assess student achievement using local test, state test, standardized tests, and other appropriate measures
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and recommendation of staff
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate professional, paraprofessional and support staff as appropriate
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff in-service programs; encourage and direct attendance at professional development meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Assist the Director to prepare and monitor budget and resources related to the school
- Prepare state, federal, and other reports as necessary
- Serve as liaison from the Magnet School to Goodwin University staff, participating school districts, LEARN programs, local, state, and federal agencies
- Develop a program of public relations furthering the community’s understanding and support of the total school educational program.
- Provide leadership and direction in enrichment and extracurricular activities
- Provide assistance to direct and supervise support services
- Facilitates parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Assists in recruitment and retention of students in order to meet enrollment requirements.
- Contribute to the mission, vision, and goals of the agency
- Perform other tasks as appropriately assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 092 certificate (Intermediate Administrator);
- At least 3 years of experience with middle school students;
- At least 2 year of experience as an administrator (preferred);
- Successful experience in implementation of restorative justice disciplinary measures within a school;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Must possess growth mindset and the ability to develop coherent structures;
- Track record of creating respectful school communities;
- Experience working and collaborating within a diverse community
- Knowledge of magnet schools and Sheff v. O’Neill
