    JOB/POSITION TITLE: Director of Communications and Public Relations
    OFFICE/CAMPUS: Communications & Public Relation/Administrative Office
    REPORTS TO: Director of Institutional Advancement
    STATUS: 12 months (exempt)
    SALARY RANGE: $65,264 - $110,949

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Under the direction of the President and direct supervision of the Director of Institutional Advancement, provide communications and marketing support for the mission of Hawaii Baptist Academy.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

    • Plan, manage and implement marketing and public relations strategies and programs, which may include advertising, crisis communications, publicity, media relations, external and internal publications, website, emerging social media tools, special events, and the most current activities normally associated with communications, public relations and marketing of non-profit organizations.
    • Lead, manage, and hold accountable (LMA) all employees of the Communications and Public Relations Department.
    • Prepare materials for administrators as appropriate (written documents, speeches, talking points, visual presentations, etc.)
    • Prepare collateral materials as appropriate (written documents, visual presentations, etc.)
    • Produce Soaring Eagle newsletters, print and online (solicit content, write, edit and photograph)
    • Manage vendors, including graphic designers, photographers, videographers and public relations contractors.
    • Serve as the point person for all media inquiries. Prepare designated school spokespersons to respond as appropriate.
    • Serve as communications lead in emergency/crisis situations that require notifications to parents, faculty/staff, media and the community.
    • Oversee school website and emerging social media tools. Work with webmaster and departments to maintain updated information on pages, including writing and editing stories.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

    • Maintain good public relations with community representatives.
    • Make presentations to groups and individuals to explain the mission, purpose and goals of Hawaii Baptist Academy.
    • Provide general support for the Office of Institutional Advancement.
    • Provide information to HBA board of directors as requested.
    • Attend all scheduled administrator meetings.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Equipment Use: Computer, Word, Photoshop, PowerPoint, digital camera, Web content management, copying machine, fax machine.
    • Work Hours : Normally 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Attend school functions, which may require weekend, weeknight time commitments. Media opportunities may require early morning or after-hour time commitments.
    • Mental Demands : Creative thinking skills, ability to work with diverse groups of people, including but not limited to administration, faculty, staff, media/print organizations and vendors.
    • Physical Demands: Sitting in meetings for extended periods, lift boxes for school functions/collateral delivery.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Spiritual : Must have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life and; demonstrate a living relationship with Jesus Christ as described in “The Baptist Faith and Message”, the tenets of the Southern Baptist denomination.
    • Skills/Knowledge : Strong verbal and written communication skills, inter-personal relationship skills, proficiency in word-processing and presentations.
    • Education/Training : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferably in communications, public relations or marketing.
    • Experience : Minimum of three years working experience in public relations, marketing, development, or communications.
