Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. QUALIFICATIONS: •Must hold a current Kansas Certified Teacher License, OR Standard Substitute License OR Emergency Substitute Teacher License. •
Applicants must meet the Kansas State Department of Education certification requirements.
•Knowledge and skills in proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation, and basic math; methodologies, techniques and practices used to address the educational and emotional needs of regular program and special education students. •Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: •Ability to implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher while ensuring the integrity of academic time in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate. •Ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students; ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgment. •Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and district policies. Ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behaviors; ability to display problem solving cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies. •
Maintain and respect confidentiality of student, school personnel, and parent information. •Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students. •Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. •Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district policies and/or practices. Assignments may be on a day-to-day basis or long term. Substitute teachers in a long-term position may be required to prepare lesson plans and do other related work as required.
This is an on-call, as needed, 9-month position with NO benefits. USD 501 applications required .
