Quality Control Supervisor oversees and monitors the inspection and testing of materials, parts, and products to ensure adherence to established quality standards. Establishes inspection protocols, defines sampling procedures, and determines equipment and mechanisms to be used in the testing process. Being a Quality Control Supervisor recommends changes in specifications of materials, parts, and products based on inspection results. May formulate and revise quality control policies and procedures. Additionally, Quality Control Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor.     Overview

    We are currently accepting applications and resumes for the position of Quality Control Supervisor for our HLM Tillamook Division. 

    This position is salaried and will report directly to the Tillamook Plant Manager.  This position will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the comprehensive quality assurance activities of the HLM Tillamook Division Operation.  They will work very closely as part of the facility management team to promote safety, quality, and productivity with the common goal of maximizing profits of Hampton.

    Responsibilities

    Safety

    • Will not compromise safety – personally or for the crew. Will set the example for crew members with regard to safety, will be an advocate for safety and promote safe work behaviors.
    • Will address safety infractions and hold co-workers accountable to Hampton safety rules.

    Quality

    • Will develop quality systems and procedures to produce product according to established specifications of Hampton and the industry without compromise. Will monitor production and test product in accordance with grading agency and Hampton specifications.
    • Will be responsible for quality assurance for all departments from log yard through finished lumber.
    • Will develop and improve quality control systems at the facility to provide for consistent, timely and accurate measurement of machine center performance, which will aid maintenance and production personnel in troubleshooting and maintenance.
    • Will keep accurate, timely records documenting quality control procedures, historical data, and processes.
    • Will provide training to employees to help them understand how to perform quality checks accurately. Training will include, but not be limited to, leadership of the Hampton Continuous Improvement focus points.  Will lead by example to instill pride in the crew. Lead the team in establishing high standards for our products and the methods that we use to produce them. Will promote and lead intra-department quality meetings to assure that all customers are involved in the quality assurance process.

    Production

    • Responsible for assisting with forecasting and execution of production with detail. (Length and grade performance, specific by width.)
    • Will be goal oriented with the quality assurance function and all personnel that assist with that function. Will establish standards for productivity in terms of quality checks, at all stages of production, and compare actual results against them.
    • Will coordinate or assist with all optimizer maintenance including parameter changes, calibrations, and upgrades in sawmill and planer. Keep in the know about current technology opportunities.

    Personal

    • Will manage and lead direct reports (currently 3)
    • Will be a leader, build a community of purpose with the passion for excellence that matches Hampton Vision.
    • Will demonstrate a high degree of integrity. Will be honest and forthcoming with information both in successes and failures.
    • Will use and promote innovative techniques in problem solving and by extension, promote innovation in the crew.
    • Will have a positive attitude about daily activities and project a positive image to the crew. Will be a team builder and promote teamwork. Will work well with peers and contribute to the success of Hampton. Will be inquisitive and always looking for ways to “Find A Better Way”.
    • Demonstrate the ability to motivate and inspire others to drive change.
    • This position will collaborate with other Quality Control Team members and the Quality Assurance Manager throughout Hampton Lumber Mills.

    Qualifications

    • Knowledge of optimization systems for a sawmill, dry kilns, and planer operation.
    • Knowledge of quality control concepts and procedures in a modern sawmill environment.
    • Proficient typing skills and familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
    • Lumber grade certifications and understanding
