**Job Summary:**
We are seeking an experienced Education Manager to oversee educational programs and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students, possess strong administrative skills, and be dedicated to promoting academic success.
**Duties:**
- ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Coordinate and supervise all education programs offered by NWS. Oversee scheduling of
all education programs. (See next section for further detail.)
● In conjunction with executive director, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all instructors
for Raising Writers programs.
● Take on the coordination of the NWS Battle of the Books program, which includes
working closely with NWS staff, the Battle of the Books committee, and community
partners to host a successful and fun annual event.
● Develop and nurture relationships with school districts, schools, and organizations in
order to strengthen connections with communities in northern Michigan. Get to know and
work with English/Language Arts teachers, school counselors, and librarians throughout

northern Michigan, primarily in the five counties of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie,
Antrim, and Kalkaska.
● Work closely with Communications Manager and Graphic Designer to develop
compelling marketing pieces and outreach opportunities for NWS education programs.
● Identify trends and needs in education and design programmatic responses including
preparation of program descriptions and narratives for grant applications.
● Evaluate all classes, workshops, and overall programs regularly.
● In conjunction with the executive director, develop budgets for education programs and
tracking to ensure that programs operate within financial parameters set forth in the
board-approved budget. Compile Excel sheets of actual expenses versus budget.
● Participate in grant proposal planning, preparation, and tracking and compliance with
reporting requirements as pertains to education.
● Develop and execute a strategy to recruit students for Raising Writers programs, which
will include advertising, classroom visits, posters, social media and email.
● Help identify and procure donors and sponsors for Raising Writers programs.
● Research and write grants, as requested.
NWS Education Programs (aka Raising Writers)
NWS education programs include but are not limited to:
● Front Street Writers workshops, masterclasses, and creative writing lab (year-round)
o Work closely with the executive director to identify potential classes and
instructors, then implement and supervise. Act as a liaison between NWS and
students, parents, teachers, librarians, and instructors.
● Battle of the Books (September – March)
o Spearhead the planning of BOTB, chair the BOTB committee, and work at events
● College Scholarships (January – May)
o Work with Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation to market, review,
and award four scholarships to local students
● Elementary Poetry Workshops (January – March)
o Work with fourth- and fifth-grade teachers and principals at Blair and Traverse
Heights to coordinate annual poetry workshops
● Literary Journal (December – May)

distribution
o Organize an end-of-school-year book launch for students who were published in
the NWS Literary Journal
● Classes offered through Northwestern Michigan College Extended Education Services
and College for Kids (Year round)
o Help identify potential classes and instructors and coordinate with NMC
representatives
