Radiation Physicist ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation-producing sources and imaging equipment and the protection of patients and staff from radiation. Calibrates all radiation therapy equipment, conducts X-ray machine performance surveys, and implements procedures to ensure quality control for electronic imaging devices. Being a Radiation Physicist recommends radiation safety procedures. Informs staff in radiation safety practices. Additionally, Radiation Physicist may require an advanced degree of radiation physics. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Radiation Physicist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Radiation Therapy Medical Physicist

  • Wood County Hospital is seeking a Radiation Therapy Medical Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology Department. The Medical Physicist will manage all aspects of clinical radiation physics including quality assurance, radiation therapy, treatment planning verification, and implementation of new modalities. Performs necessary physics support for all aspects of therapy, quality assistance including but not limited to: 3D, IMRTVMAT treatment planning, LDR, IGRT, SRS/SBRT, DIBH, Gating, monitoring loading and transportation of radioactive material. Performs quality management processes of the department including chart checks, dose calculations, radiation monitoring and equipment calibrations. Maintains skills to assess and care for patients of all ages and disease sites. Provides support and assistance for other medical physics activities related to patient care and staff education.

    Job Duties:

    • Required qualified physics coverage on site during stereotactic radio surgery/stereotactic body radiation therapy (SRS/SBRT) treatment delivered
    • Mandated machine QA including daily (performed by WCH therapists), monthly and annual to follow ODH guidelines. Reports of all the QA work shall be provided and be on site for inspection
    • Contribute to the correct execution of the treatment plan by assisting and advising radiation therapists and radiation oncologist on physical parameters of treatment delivery
    • Perform all appropriate computer or hand calculations for treatment planning, weekly chart checks, and evaluation of brachytherapy dose
    • Ongoing Quality Assurance procedures for all external beams, brachytherapy, and other special procedures, including review of manual dose calculations, documentation and review of patient records, participation in clinical rounds
    • Calibration of all photon and electron beams as per requirements of AAPM TG-51
    • Maintain quality control and dose calibration on all machines used for radiation therapy, planning or delivery (Linacs, CT-Sim, MRI, and after loading devices) as per requirements of the AAPM TG-142, and relevant TG reports, and the ODH regulations
    • Reviews of patient treatment plans, including an evaluation of treatment plan tradeoffs, the consideration of tumor control and normal issue tolerance, the appreciation of ease/difficulty in implementation and be able to communicate with physicians, physicists, and technologies concerning treatment planning and dosimetry issues

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Master's Degree in Medical Physics
    • 3 years' radiation oncology clinical experience
    • ABR eligible or currently certified
