Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Summary:
Performs computerized treatment planning for patients undergoing external beam, high-dose-rate, and low-dose-rate brachytherapy treatments in coordination with radiation oncologists.
Hours: M-F 8-5; hybrid position with expectation of 2-3 days per week in clinic and the other days remote.
Responsibilities:
1. Fabricates treatment aids
2. Measures patient doses using thermoluminescent dosimetry methods and materials.
3. Perform QA on dosimetry procedures according to standard procedures
4. Provide dosimetry instruction for radiation therapy students and residents.
5. Provide technical and administrative support for brachytherapy procedures, including but not limited to, source receipt, preparation, and disposal.
6. Uses computerized treatment planning system to prepare radiation treatment plans modifies treatment plans as needed to accommodate unforeseen limitations and/or changes that may occur during the course of treatment. Interfaces with the appropriate medical staff on planning approach and data gathering
