Performs computerized axial tomography procedures in accordance with the established professional and departmental standards and procedures.
Reviews consultation request, checking for special instructions and consults with the Radiologist as necessary. Obtains patient history for correlation with scan. Ensures that billing codes match the exam that was done. Begin and ends procedures and document scans all relevant paperwork. Completely follows through with urgent add-on requests. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present. Provides radiation protection to patients, staff and self according to prescribed standards. Performs all routine CT Scan procedures according to established protocols. Evaluates the scan for technical quality. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation. Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all equipment located within the CT department. Performs visual preventative safety inspections. Identifies and communicates problems to immediate supervisor. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures and administers first aid or CPR as needed. Completes needed follow-up documentation such as contrast reaction forms, extravasation reports and Safety Tracking Tools. Assist radiologists with CT guided drainages and biopsies. Verifies that patient has consented to the procedure and understands the risks, benefits, alternatives and follow up. Prepares and administers contrast media according to department policies and procedures. Evaluates lab values as required prior to administering contrast media and beginning interventional procedures. Is competent in aseptic technique and properly labels and handles multidose containers. Is IV competent. Stocks supplies, monitors and reports supplies in shortage and special order items. Keeps work area clean and neat. Maintains daily equipment logs. Demonstrates a working knowledge of Radiology PC software programs such as Novius, Invision, Document Scanning. Can access Scheduling.com and can order patient exams in Invision if necessary. Seeks out educational opportunities. Shares new knowledge with others. Willingness to learn. Volunteers for special assignments.
One year CAT Scan experience preferred.
