Radiology Director directs and coordinates activities of a radiology or diagnostic imaging department in a hospital or other medical facility. Reviews work schedules and assigns duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals. Being a Radiology Director oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment, such as x-ray machine, fluoroscope, CT scanner, or MRI equipment. Evaluates accuracy and quality of images and provides technical assistance to staff. Additionally, Radiology Director demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff. Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develops and implements plans, policies, and procedures regarding operations and staffing and, the purchasing of radiology supplies. May require an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Radiology Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Radiology Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Position Summary:

    Coordinate and oversee all radiology and imaging operations, personnel, financial management, and program growth. Serve as a liaison to internal and external customers. Manage, coordinate and oversee the operational day to day activities within assigned departments to ensure compliance with policy, standards and procedures. Develop and administer a quality oversight program. Provide development and management of PACS and RIS operations. Maintain Radiology Department benchmark information. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and charge master requirements. Prepare and obtain approval for and administer the Department budget. Document and track expense trends. Ensure adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

    Detailed Responsibilities:

    • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
    • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
    • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
    • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
    • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
    • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
    • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
    • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Recruit and interview applicants, hire, orient, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, counsel, discipline and terminate department personnel within the policy of SRMC and applicable
    • LEADERSHIP - Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to managers and staff
    • LEADERSHIP - Provide leadership in preparing budgets with managers and medical directors including five year capital assets plan
    • COMPLIANCE - Establish and ensure completion of competencies, training sessions, education programs for staff and managers; promote staff satisfaction and recognition activities
    • QUALITY - Conduct regular or continual analysis of staffing, quality assurance, management review, budget reviews and performance evaluations
    • PATIENT CARE - Develop and implement patient care systems to maintain maximum efficiency, high patient satisfaction and quality at the lowest operational cost; design procedures to support increased patient satisfaction
    • COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring Hospital operations, programs and physical properties; initiate changes as required
    • COLLABORATION - Collaborate with appropriate providers to ensure departmental effectiveness and quality outcomes
    • STRATEGIC PLANNING - Assist in the strategic planning of both short- and long- term plans
    • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Responsible for the area hospital policy and procedure development, revision and implementation
    • GOALS- Plan for professional growth related to professional goals based on self-assessment, evaluation and feedback; assume responsibility for acquiring knowledge and experiences to meet goals

    • QUALITY ASSURANCE - Develop, modify and oversee quality control program. Administer quality assurance for assigned area; maintain data on repeat counts and inadequate/incomplete exams; monitor data and reports required for State and National Radiology Standards
    • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Develop training and education program in support of image quality improvement for all modalities; coordinate results of image quality with physicians
    • BILLING - Develop and maintain charge masters to assure billing is in compliance with federal and state regulations for all areas of responsibility
    • EQUIPMENT AND MAINTENANCE - Oversee equipment maintenance, environmental service and IT support issues
    • MEETINGS AND COMMITTEES - Attend and participate in professional meetings and committees; stay abreast of new trends and innovations
    • RELATED DUTIES - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
