Radiology Director directs and coordinates activities of a radiology or diagnostic imaging department in a hospital or other medical facility. Reviews work schedules and assigns duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals. Being a Radiology Director oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment, such as x-ray machine, fluoroscope, CT scanner, or MRI equipment. Evaluates accuracy and quality of images and provides technical assistance to staff. Additionally, Radiology Director demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff. Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develops and implements plans, policies, and procedures regarding operations and staffing and, the purchasing of radiology supplies. May require an advanced degree. Oversees the daily activities and management of Imaging Services in order to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. Performs a variety of administrative duties and monitors the technical aspects of patient procedures and equipment operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
5-10 years of experience as a Technologist. At least 3 years in a management role. Demonstrated ability to plan and administer departmental goals and objectives, prepare and initiate marketing and promotional strategies, research and negotiate for state-of-the-art equipment, and investigate and recommend procedures and techniques for the professional and technical staff. Supervisory experience normally acquired through at least three years previous experience in a managerial capacity with technical and supervisory responsibilities. Knowledge of general finance and accounting procedures and personnel practices as normally acquired through completion of college level business courses or previous managerial experience. Communication and interpersonal skills needed to deal effectively with administration, medical personnel, all staff and patients. Negotiation skills needed to deal with vendors effectively.
Education
Graduate from a school of Radiologic Technology
Credentials
Completion of American Medical Association (AMA) approved radiological training and the ability to meet the requirements for the registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART). Maintains CEU credits as required by ARRT. Certified Radiology Administrator preferred.
