Registered Respiratory Therapist jobs in Maryland

Registered Respiratory Therapist assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Registered Respiratory Therapist also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function. Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing. Additionally, Registered Respiratory Therapist assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians. Requires an associate degree. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification. Requires State License to Practice. Typically reports to a manager.   • New Jersey Respiratory is hiring Clinical respiratory therapist to add to our ever-expanding company. Duties will include setting up and operating devices such as therapeutic gas administration apparatus and mechanical ventilators, providing emergency care, such as external cardiac massage, artificial respiration, and or maintaining charts that contain patient identification and therapy information.

     

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitoring patient physiological responses to therapy such as arterial blood gases, vital signs or blood chemistry, and lung function changes, and consulting with physicians if there are adverse reactions.
    • Working as part of a team of health care professionals to manage patient care by assisting with medical procedures.
    • Setting up and operating devices including therapeutic gas administration apparatus, mechanical ventilators, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
    • Following specified parameters of treatment.
    • Providing emergency care, such as external cardiac massage, artificial respiration, or assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
    • Inspecting, testing, cleaning, and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently.
    • Maintaining charts that contain patient identification and therapy information.
    • Measuring arterial blood gases, reading prescriptions, lung capacity, and reviewing other information to assess patient condition.
    • Relaying blood analysis results to a physician.
    • Making emergency visits to resolve equipment problems when necessary.
    • Ordering equipment repairs when necessary.
    • Explaining health care treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation.
    • Checking pulmonary function in patients.

     

    Requirements:

    • Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program or technical college course for respiratory therapy.
    • Current RCP license in the state of practice.
    • Respiratory care, emergency care, and intensive care experience.
    • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
    • Strong knowledge of pulmonary function and pulmonary rehabilitation.
    • Experience with respiratory equipment

     

    Physical and Emotional Demands: Good physical and emotional health. As the Respiratory Therapist may be required to stand or sit for long periods of time, lift and move patients, and work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and home healthcare.  

    Exposure Risks: Normal work routine could involve exposure to blood and body fluids. Responsible for following OSHA guideline standard and the use of universal precautions.

    Working Conditions: Hours indicated by the residents and community's needs. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

    If your assignment involves caring for individuals on life-support, where having a therapist in-house is required by law, you will need to make arrangements to come to work during inclement weather. These arrangements can be in coordination with NJRA, and may involve alternative modes of transportation, such as a taxi, or showing up to work earlier or staying at work later then your scheduled shift.
