RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHER (CATHOLIC OR LITURGICAL SPIRITUAL GUIDE)

*Position is Contingent upon Contract Award

PART-TIME

Location: Greenville, IL (Bureau of Prison)

Religious Education and Experience:

• Must possess an ordination certificate or like document showing the contractor is a recognized clergy or spiritual leader in good standing with their faith community and must have extensive experience serving as a spiritual leader of a recognized congregation or faith community.

• The contractor should possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in religious studies, religious education, spiritual direction, psychology/counseling, criminology or related course of study from an accredited college or university.

• The individual will have at least five (5) years of continuous experience as a clergy leader. Individuals should have documented experience in a teaching setting about spiritual topics where students follow diverse religions and in leading services in a correctional setting is preferred.

• Individuals with the following will be preferred: at least three (3) years of experience working in faith-based reentry in a correctional setting, clergy commute within 30 minutes from the institution, experience and familiarity with the Life Connections Program, and a proficiency in Microsoft products.

• Must complete and submit their “Credentials of Religious Services Contract form. (This document will be given for completion to those who qualify).

• Shall submit two personal references and one letter of endorsement from their local religious organization.

Work Duties:

Shall instruct inmates in the on-site Life Connections Program (LCP). Classes will consist of religious based instruction on the following broad topics: how to live with integrity, how to grow spiritually, how to be a spiritual leader, and any other subjects mutually agreed upon topics. The instructor will be responsible for the administration and grading of exams. The instructor will also be responsible to encourage the inmate’s participation in all aspects of the LCP, i.e., journaling, discussion/ accountability groups, service projects and victim impact discussion. The overall result of the instruction should be a reduction in recidivism and disciplinary problems.

· Instruction will be provided according to the custom of the Liturgical faith and tradition. The contract clergy will lead prayers and will counsel from the Liturgical theological perspective.

Hours and Performance:

· Shall work approximately 30 hours per week.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
