  • SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Program Director, provides advocacy and crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Plan, implement, and coordinate educational services provided to the nine counties of the Pennyrile Area Development District.

    Conduct public speaking engagements for the purpose of public education and professional training.

    Conduct public speaking engagements for the purpose of expanding awareness regarding Sanctuary, Inc. and agency services.

    Coordinate the dissemination of information related to Sanctuary Inc., domestic violence through, but not limited to, the use of Public Service Announcements, newspaper articles, radio and/or social media.

    Perform direct advocacy services for sexual assault victims. These duties include accompanying victims to court and/or meetings with law enforcement or other criminal justice agencies, assisting victims with writing victim impact statements, educating victims about the criminal justice system, etc.

    Coordinate casework and service/treatment plan activities with other program components to assure that each client receives comprehensive, non-duplicated services.

    Answer crisis line and provide crisis intervention services to victims of rape and/or sexual assault.

    Refer victims to needed services.

    Develop a working relationship with other service providers such as DCBS, DSI, hospitals, KSP system and mental health centers in each assigned county in coordination with other agency outreach personnel in order to facilitate interagency cooperation.

    Participate in local multi-disciplinary teams related to victims of sexual assault.

    Notify victims regarding significant events (including court appearances) relating to the investigation and prosecution of the victim’s case.

    Provide medical advocacy for victims of sexual assault when needed.

    Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and in-services as required.

    Maintain contact with local law enforcement officials, attorneys, and judges in order to provide them with relevant information and to act as a liaison between them and Sanctuary’s clients and staff.

    Participate in the development of a list of available community resources/referrals and act as a liaison between those resources and agency staff or clients.

    Assist in conducting public speaking engagements for the purpose of public education and professional training as needed.

    Assist in conducting public speaking engagements for the purpose of expanding awareness regarding Sanctuary, Inc. and agency services as needed.

    Research current information on rape and sexual assault that could be relevant to the clients of Sanctuary or useful in increasing public awareness.

    Participate in preparing and conducting seminars, volunteer training, and in-service training for professionals as needed.

    Create community partnerships by attending interagency meetings and functions.

    Assist the volunteer program by helping to set standards for volunteers; inform volunteers of their responsibilities; and provide them with information regarding Sanctuary’s program, mission and opportunities for volunteer service.

    Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with local county news media.

    Collect statistics and compile data as required.

    Be available to work in shelter and be on-call as assigned.

    Employee may also be asked to perform other reasonably related business duties for the overall efficient operation of the organization. An employee will adhere to all policies of Sanctuary.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum of 2-year degree in social services field with at least 2 years of related social work/education experience required. Prefer 4-Year Degree in the Social Services field.

    Computer Date Entry Skills needed.

    Participate in 40 hours of training on rape and sexual abuse issues, within (3) three months of employment. 8 hours of this training shall occur prior to the performance of a crisis counseling service.

    Meet the definition of a victim's advocate in KRS 421.570.

    Participate in at least twelve hours of continuing education annually.

    A comprehensive understanding of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault issues and at least two years of successful employment in a human service area is preferred.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
