Looking for a dynamic, career-oriented General Assignment Reporter/Staff Writer to join our award-winning News Team.

This position provides daily news coverage of the county and its surrounding areas, including local businesses and constantly evolving economic developments. The ideal candidate will have a background or strong interest in covering local politics and a willingness to pitch in and cover stories from other beats as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a hunger to tell large-scale stories that include visual and digital components, as well as personal stories that touch the hearts and lives of others.
Job Functions
We are looking for someone who is a flexible self-starting multi-tasker — attentive to details, diplomatic and able to perform under the day-to-day pressure of a deadline.
The ideal candidate will be a strong writer who demonstrates exceptional interviewing and organizational skills — and who exhibits a tenacity and a genuine curiosity for reporting community news.
This is a full-time position with weeknight and weekend assignments part of the job. The ideal candidate must be able to accept instruction and editing suggestions from editors.
Essential Skills, Requirements- Perform job duties and conduct self in accordance with the company's core values;
- Take effective notes and be able to draft an organized news article from those notes;
- Initiate and nurture effective, professional relationships with sources in the community;
- Strong eye for details;
- Must have own transportation.
- Experience writing enterprise and long-form content, as well as telling personal stories;
- Experience covering news on social media platforms;
- Some experience with photography, video and/or design.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Word is required. Familiarity with AP style is strongly preferred. Photography, social media and content management system experience is a plus.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
