Respiratory Therapy Director directs the programs and staff of the respiratory therapy department. Oversees the provision of diagnostic, treatment, and educational services for patients with respiratory disorders. Being a Respiratory Therapy Director develops and implements respiratory care services in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the medical staff. Monitors patient progress and treatment plans. Additionally, Respiratory Therapy Director manages departmental budgets and reports, and maintains department records and statistics. Requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapy Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, at all sites, including dual enrollment, traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education.Serve as a liaison between the institution and affiliated clinical facilities; develop, supervise, and assess the clinical education of RT students at varied times and places based on student demand; day, evening or weekend, at any approved clinical site.Evaluate the progress of students in classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.Prepare or assist in preparation of material and evaluation of data to maintain program accreditation compliance as requested.Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.Participate in scheduled in-service activities.Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies in assigned teaching responsibilities.Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.Perform all duties with professionalism.Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution as appointed or elected.Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned.
