Description

The Returns Clerk/Balance Clerk is responsible for, investigating, re-entering, and balancing check items that reject under normal processing in a multi-bank traditional and imaging processing environment. The Returns Clerk is balancing NSF items and communicating with banks contacts regarding return items in an imaging multi-bank processing environment. Provides exceptional customer service in ensuring that all DCI financial institutions and customers receive effective, complete, and satisfactory delivery and utilization of DCI’s processing services. This individual must be flexible to work varying schedules as requested to meet operation requirements.  

This position will be located in Hutchinson, KS. The hours are on a rotating schedule (6:30/7/8/9 am - 3:30/4/5/6 pm).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Return Item Processing

• Processes and balances exception items and NSF items including preparation of qualified electronic return cash letters.
• Transmits electronic returns files to the Federal Reserve Bank or other financial institutions.
• Responds promptly to questions/concerns of bank customer contacts and ensures the timely resolution of all problems that arise with processing.
• May complete item research and retrieval at bank contacts' request utilizing application systems.
• Uses imaging application to electronically produce IRD items for various banks.
• Inputs daily billing data into iCore billing screens and spreadsheets
• Inputs data for large dollar notifications to EARNS notification system.

Balancing

• Balances and verifies that debits and credits on grouped check and bank transaction items are equal.
• Processes and balances exception &/or NSF items.
• Enters data from automatic item collection rejects for all applications through a thin client and/or PC terminal.
• Investigates, reject reentry of MICR encoding, balances rejected items, and follows duplicate item verification procedures.

General Item Processing Objectives

• Maintains standards and schedules established by DCI’s Item Processing department.
• Informs supervisor of problems and assists in resolution.
• Assists in maintaining continuous quality control. 
• Performs daily equipment/machine clean-up and maintenance and at end of each shift.
• Assists in evaluating current procedures and schedules, as requested, and suggests ideas to efficiently expedite item processing. 

Other

• Provides back up to all functions and duties performed by other balance room employees.
• Provides back up to specified item processing functions and duties performed by other IP employees as requested.
• Ensures that processing and balance room areas as well as personal work area, and other shared departmental work areas are maintained in a neat and organized manner.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED.
• General bank operations experience preferred, but not required.• 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS

• Basic understanding and knowledge of individual bank item transaction processing in an image and traditional bank processing environment.
• Basic understanding of bank item processing operations.
• General knowledge of computer uses and operation.
• Learns and maintains knowledge of bank numbers assigned to banks processed.
• Introductory knowledge of financial data processing, balancing, and bank bookkeeping preferred.
• Intermediate data-entry proficiency.
