Rig Operator is responsible for operation of the rig, crew, and equipment and for ensuring customer satisfaction with all services rendered. Ensures that all crew are at the rig and ready to work at scheduled time. Being a Rig Operator maintains productivity standards for all rig functions. Maintains a safe working environment and ensures compliance of applicable regulations and policies. Additionally, Rig Operator may require a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Rig Operator supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Rig Operator typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. MEDIUM EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - Small Flush Rig

  • This is the first of two levels in the Medium Equipment Operations series.
     
    Incumbents operate and maintain vehicles and equipment which may require a Commercial Driver's License to operate.  Responsibilities may include driving or operating vehicles and equipment listed below or other similarly categorized equipment normally utilized in operations; inspecting vehicles and equipment for safety issues; performing routine vehicle and equipment maintenance; loading and unloading materials; and performing related manual labor.

    • Mini Excavator
    • Boom Mower
    • Tandem Dump Truck
    • Backhoe
    • Front End Loader
    • Winch Truck / Medium Low Boy
    • Push Type Shoulder Spreader
    • Flush Rig (Small)

    • Operates a variety of equipment in the performance of construction, maintenance, and repair work to streets, landscaped areas, and/or other related areas, which may include any of the equipment listed above and/or other related equipment.
    • Transports equipment and/or materials to designated job site(s).
    • Inspects, maintains, and performs basic repairs to equipment.
    • Operates a variety of small motorized and/or hand tools to perform manual labor activities.
    • Performs a variety of duties requiring manual labor including loading and unloading shipments, flagging traffic, assembling structures, picking up debris, and/or other related duties.
    • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
    • Responsible for directing the work zone or other traffic control setup on job sites in accordance with MUTCD or other generally accepted standards.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • High School Diploma (G.E.D.) and one year of proficiency in the use and operation of qualifying equipment designated by the department; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must hold recognized training certification and be able to safely operate one or more pieces of qualifying equipment. 

    LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
    • Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.
    • Some positions may require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class to be determined by equipment assignment.
    • Public Works or other recognized Training Certification on Qualifying Equipment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Performing manual labor;
    • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Positions in this class typically require   climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
    •  Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
    •  Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, travel, and environmental hazards.

    UNIFORM 
    An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.  The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
