Rigger facilitates the movement and positioning of heavy equipment, materials and cargo. Sets up rigging, slings, pulleys, winches, dollies and ropes to safely maneuver loads. Being a Rigger coordinates moving activities with others using hand or other signals. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Rigger may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Brief Summary: Works in the field, installing rigging systems and related equipment assemblies such as chain motors, curtains, winches, pipe battens, etc.
Duties:
Responsible for performing installation and fabrication of rigging hardware, battens, curtain tracks, electrical plug boxes/strips and all related items. Installations require the rigger work at heights ranging from twelve to sixty feet from floor level and may often call for the use of safety equipment and climbing. While much of the work involves individual initiative and judgment, working with team members is critical when performing rigging installation. Specific work will include the installation of hardware to existing structures, the installation of hanging pipes, beams or tracking and hardware to concrete, steel, wood, and block walls. Responsible for drilling, securing and testing the operation of head blocks, mule blocks, sheaves, winches, and components of counterweighted, winched and dead hung systems. A Rigger ensures his work and that of his team always meets the highest quality and safety standards as set forth by OSHA, ESTA, USITT, ECTP and IATSE Local 190. Position requires the ability to work at all ASM Global Facilities in Wichita.
Requirements:
Physical ability to lift and carry heavy loads, walk, stand, sit, crouch, bend, stretch and reach.
Ability to work at heights to one hundred feet.
Desired Skill Set:
Knowledge of theatrical rigging practices and procedures.
Certification or ability to obtain certification: ETCP Arena Rigging, ETC Prodigy.
Ability to recognize, tie and determine use of knots and cabling terminations.
Basic math skills, including but not limited to addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.- Knowledge of safe climbing skills and practices including ability to rappel, belay, and ascend.
- Ability to work with or without supervision. Use authoritative references and 'common sense' judgment when making decisions regarding safe rigging practices and procedures.
Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
Position is a referent of Local 190 union and is subject to pay referral fee and dues directed by the Local 190 and the work referral system in effect.
This is an hourly position that will be subject to collectively bargained union rules.
