                                                    POSITION AVAILABLE TO BEGIN WITH THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

    Position:                    Elementary Introduction to Arts/Music Teacher, Saddle Mt. Elementary, Grades 1-3                                   

    Reports To:               Building Principal

     

    Representative         Representation available by the Wahluke Education Association

    SALARY:                        Salary as per the Wahluke School District and WEA salary schedule, includes additional stipend for performances and additional student arts activities or groups. 

     

    Terms of Employment:          Wahluke Certified staff receive a 5% Professional Learning Activity Stipend; Up to 8 additional compensated work days; Professional Development Funds; Longevity Stipends beginning in fifth year of teaching.

    Music/Designated Arts Teacher; Teach vocal/instrumental music and possibly other arts such as theatre or visual arts, or elementary curriculum. K-8 endorsement with music emphasis training content knowledge. Music endorsement helpful. Skills and knowledge in the desired areas needed.  Instructional experience in listed areas preferred.  Knowledge of State standards and ability to develop curriculum helpful. Demonstrated ability to engage elementary-age students. Ability to plan and direct performances. Endorsement or training in ELL strategies, bilingual Spanish helpful.

    Responsible for the learning experience for students; demonstrates knowledge of subject matter, demonstrates competency in instructional skills; informs students of their progress; handles discipline and attendance problems; evaluates in terms of planned goals and standards and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.

     

     

    Major Responsibilities: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    1. Implement state essential learning standards and district designated/approved expectations and standards
    2. Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and competency in instructional practices
    3. Informs students of their progress in terms of objectives set for the lesson or study course, handles student discipline and attendance problems.
    4. Evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation, makes long and short range plans for each subject area of instruction
    5. Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provides a classroom climate which is based upon mutual respect, equity for all, rapport, fairness and consistency
    6. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
    7. Participates in and contributes to staff development activities
    8. Performs job related, non-teaching duties
    9. Participates as a collaborative team member in planning curriculum, instruction and procedures
    10. Provide guidance and supervise instructional aides if so assigned.
    11. Willingness to supervise and scheduled field trips
    12. Able to plan, direct and attend performances, including outside the school day and school week,  as required by supplemental contract.
    13. Ability to teach a broad range of designated arts: music, theatre, visual arts courses preferred. 
    14. Ability to demonstrate through verbal and non-verbal behavior a warm and caring personality, a sense of humor, and a positive, enthusiastic approach to working with students, parents and staff.
    15. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student and district records required.
    16. Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment, and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.

    1. Participate in curriculum review and design with an understanding of the Common Core State Standards

    2. Understands and applies the Washington State learning standards for general music and instrumental music.
    3. Develop lessons to reflect standards in content area. 
    4. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.

    5. May serve students that qualify for special education services.  
    6. Implements a comprehensive, sequential, standards based and creative approach to music education.
    7. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.

    8. Collaborate with Special Education teacher/supervisor to assist in development of student educational plans and deliver appropriate instruction as per plan.
    9. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly, using both formative and summative processes.

    10. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

    11. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

    12. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

    13. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education, STEM and others.

    14. Effectively implement district initiatives.

    15. Use the PLC process to effectively communicate and collaborate with professionals at the department, building, and district levels.

    16. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, of students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles (Basic levels and extensions beyond basics).

    10. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
    11. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
    12. Teachers will recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
    13. Collaborate with Intervention Specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
    14. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
    15. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
    16. Collect student data using a variety of data collection forms for purposes of determining appropriate instruction.
    17. Ability and willingness to attend student field trips.
    18. Attends meetings and training sessions related content areas as may be assigned
    19. Willingness and ability to attend trainings, including travel.  Maybe outside the school year calendar, may include overnight.
    20. Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
    21. Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed.
    22. Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions with students.
    23. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
    24. Able to work in a calm, efficient safe manner.

     

     

     Qualifications:

    1. Valid Washington Teaching Certificate, K-8/Elementary Education endorsement with knowledge and skill in music, visual arts, theatre preferred. Music endorsement helpful.
    2. Elementary education subject content knowledge proficiency.
    3. Successful experience implementing G.L.A.D. and/or SIOP instructional strategies preferred; training helpful. 
    4. Understanding of Whole Brain teaching  strategies and successful incorporation into instructional delivery preferred.
    5. Understanding/Knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices.  
    6. Knowledge of/training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, and /or CHAMPS  programs preferred.
    7. Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery.
